The Centre for Lebanese Studies has a Visiting Fellows programme whereby researchers working on Lebanon throughout the world are encouraged to visit the Centre at Oxford and contribute to its activities. This programme ensures a continuous international presence of scholars working on a variety of subjects. The Centre organises seminars and /or conferences at which its Visiting Fellows are asked to present a paper and/or a book related to their field of research.
The fellowship is usually for one academic year. The duties of the fellow are to promote knowledge, and scholarship on Lebanon through individual research and public lectures. The fellow normally organizes a workshop or conference related to the subject of their research during the course of their Fellowship and in cooperation with the Middle East Centre and the Centre for Lebanese Studies. The fellow may also assist in limited supervision of masters and doctoral students working on Lebanon.
Applicants should be scholars of Lebanon with an established record of academic excellence, normally holding the Ph.D. or equivalent. Current students are not eligible to apply. Preference may be shown to citizens of Lebanon or scholars of Lebanese origins who are citizens of other countries. Applicants should be engaged in research in either the humanities or social sciences, on a topic of relevance to modern Lebanon (19th century to present day). Applicants must demonstrate sufficient command of English to take full advantage of and contribute to the academic life of Oxford University.
The CLS Visiting Fellow will be a member of St Antony's College. The benefits of the Fellowship include a stipend and other benefits. The post is usually tenable for nine months, from October through June.
